American Civil War

The American Civil War was a war that was fought between the Northern and Southern states of the United States of America. It was a war that raged for 4 years between 1861 to 1865. It was 11 Southern states who joined together to create the Confederate States of America, separating from the Union.

Reason for War:

The reason for the civil war was building up for many years and continued to build up until the Southern States decided to build their own separate country. The southern states were South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. In the North, the economy was becoming more modern and diverse. This meant that the people of the North were able to benefit from agriculture which was the dominating sector of the economy but also from other things which were coming about due to industrialization and urbanization. Also, the people had invested in different means of transport such as boats, roads, and trains and also focused upon their financial industry which included banks and other such institutions. They also began to work on communication like newspapers, books, and telegraphs.

While by comparison the South was focused mainly upon the agriculture sector of the economy. There was no modernization or any urbanization. People used to grow simple crops like cotton which required labor to pick them. Unlike the north which had diversified their economy, most people in the South would invest heavily in slaves as they were the main labor force that would pick crops on their farms. Due to the high rise in prices of cotton in the time of the civil war, some of the richest men in the world were Southerners as they believed investing in slaves was a good decision.

The main dispute between the North and the South was on the idea of slavery. The Northerners were against the idea of slavery and their morality was much higher. As their investments were in diverse sectors of the economy, with the abolishment of slavery, they would not face too much trouble. On the other hand, the South was dependent upon slaves. Banning slavery would mean losing their whole labor force. When Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election, the dispute arose and the Southern states decided they would not be a part of this country as Abraham Lincoln was a big supporter of anti-slavery rights and was looking to ban slavery throughout America. This is how the bloodiest war in the United States began to take shape and it raged for 4 long years, taking countless lives and killing many innocent people along the way.
